The Boys and Girls Club of America:
The Boys and Girls Club of America spans worldwide to create a safe place for children in poverty at all times. Share a Smile Initiative works with various branches of the BGCA to plan and host parties for children with birthdays each month. Their youth staff help us pick themes (superheroes, Disney, you name it), open up their big rec room, and even lend us tables and sound equipment. So far, we’ve celebrated over 50 birthdays together and hearing the cheers when it’s time for cake makes it worth it every time.

Cuyahoga County Public Libraries:

Our party-in-a-box kits live on the CCPL shelves. Parents, teachers, and caseworkers can check them out just like books, no return necessary! With the help of several different Cuyahoga County Public Library branches, we are able to distribute our kits to kids across Ohio communities, who we never could have reached otherwise. Additionally, volunteers help Librarians run mini “decorate your own hat” workshops, Christmas craft sessions, and other fun events, creating even more opportunities for community connections.

Bridge the Gap Initiative

We recently also partnered with Bridge the Gap Initiative to increase our span of engagement. Bridge the Gap Initiative is a nonprofit organization that strives to promote digital literacy by connecting tech-savvy teen volunteers to senior citizen populations. Working with Bridge the Gap, we been able to expand our volunteer base and impact more than ever: all the way from kids to senior citizens! The senior citizens volunteer and assist us in any way we need: wrapping presents, making cards, blowing up balloons, and more!

University Hospitals (Rainbow Babies division)

We work with University Hospitals to deliver the joy of celebration to children in hospitals who can’t afford to do so due to health or monetary reasons. With the help of volunteers and masks, we have delivered 75+ party-in-a-box-kits to the Cleveland Rainbow Babies Hospital. These kits include everything fit for a small in-hospital celebration for a child and their family (silverware sets, packaged cupcakes, candles, birthday crowns, birthday cards, games, etc.). When kids can’t go home to celebrate, we make sure to bring the celebration to them, spreading joy in an otherwise dark time!

Youth Challenge:

We realized early on that a loud, crowded party can overwhelm some kids. That’s when we turned to Youth Challenge, a nonprofit that organizes adapted recreational activities for children with disabilities. They taught us to ensure that every child is included and celebrated at our events. With their guidance, we’ve implemented sensory friendly decorations, quiet corners at our parties to take breaks in, and fun adapted activities (wheelchair basketball, assisted archery etc.). Now, our celebrations make sure that ALL children feel celebrated, even those with extra needs or disabilities.
